A shell is fired from a gun pointing at an angle of 30o above the horizontal. The muzzle velocity is 1.0x103 m/s.

  1. (a) What are the horizontal and vertical components of the shell's initial velocity?
  2. (b) How high will the shell rise above the level of the gun?
  3. (c) Assuming that the shell hits the ground on a small hill at the same level as the gun,
  4. calculate how far the hill is away from the gun?

A ball is fired from a cannon inclined at 36.9o above the horizontal. The speed with which it leaves the barrel is 200 m/s and the mouth of the cannon is 2.00 m above ground level. Assume level ground.

  1. (a) What are the horizontal and vertical components of the initial velocity of the cannon ball?
  2. (b) Determine the velocity of the cannon ball at t = 6.0 s.
  3. (c) What is the ball's velocity when it reaches its maximum height?
  4. (d) How far down range (from the cannon mouth) does the ball land?
