Terms of sale stipulated on the purchase order and in the contract between vendor and customer designate the party in control of and responsible for setting up and managing the carrier for the shipment. Moreover, the terms of sale indicate when ownership changes hands from seller to buyer and stipulates who pays the carrier's freight bill. It may seem at first that shipping would be made simpler if the customer allowed the shipper to be responsible for the shipment, pay the carrier, and deliver the freight to the destination before the customer took ownership and responsibility for the product. However, there are many reasons that one or the other party would want to control the shipping terms of sale. Outline 2 reasons against controlling the shipment in transit and 2 examples of why an organization would want control of the shipment in transit.
