In the English Common Law, various Statutes of Limitations exist to bring forward either a civil or criminal case before the court. For the stated reason of equity, Judge Gladstone's ancient opinion set forth the proposition that it is neither reasonable nor just to prosecute a case after an unreasonable amount of time has passed. Though exceptions do exist, such as with murder, almost every other possible legal matter has a corresponding statute of limitation in which to bring forward the case. Many other legal systems that do not model the English Common Law have no limitations in which a matter may be brought before the court. Which is the best approach?
