Miriam is 32 years old and has 7 living children of her 12 birthed children. Like most women in her village she is short (4'8") and small and she lacks a variety of food sources in her diet. She is illiterate, hard-working and loves her children. She has not had access to family planning services. All of her children have been birthed at home with a locally- trained midwife. The hospital is a 5-hour drive requiring 4 wheel drive due to the poor roads and mountainous region she lives in. She went there with her last pregnancy, which resulted in a stillbirth because the physician and hospital staff were not available to do the C-section she needed.
