Specification limits for a particular characteristic of a product indicate the values at which the product will operate properly. Assume we have a product with an upper specification limit of 7.25 and a lower specification limit of 4.0. As long as our product falls within these limits our buyers will be happy. We now investigate the process used to manufacture the product and find that the process (population) mean is 5 and the process (population) standard deviation is 0.5. Assuming the process is normally distributed, what percentage of items will fall outside the specification limits?
What is the population mean? What is the best estimate of that value?
Develop a seasonally adjusted forecast model for these sandwich sales data. Forecast demand for each season for 2004 using a linear trend line estimate for sales in 2004. Do the data appear to have a seasonal pattern?
What is the probability that a sample mean will be within plus-or-minus two of the population mean for each of the following sample sizes?
The following table shows the hardness (in Brinell hardness numbers) and the tensile strength (in thousands of pounds per square inch) of ten specimens of a certain alloy.
1) There are 500 employees in a firm, 45% are female. A sample of 60 employees is selected randomly. a) Determine the standard error of the proportion.
Following data represent random sample of bank balances for population of checking account customers at large eastern bank. Based on data, determine the 95 percent confidence interval estimate for true population mean?
Find the z-score for a car driving 20 mph in this construction zone. It is an outlier (assume the data is bell shaped, so dont actually test it with pearsons index).
Two popular over-the-counter antacids are compared to determine which brand is preferred. Three hundred subjects are randomly selected then divided into two groups of 150 each, and given one of the two antacids.
Discuss why the standard error for the distribution of sample means is smaller than the standard deviation of sample scores. Distinguish between within-group designs and between-group designs.
As a sample size approaches infinity, how does the student's t distribution compare to the normal z distribution? When a researcher draws a sample from a normal distribution, what can one conclude about the sample distribution? Explain.
