BACKGROUND DESCRIPTION

GBI, a renowned cycling manufacturer, finds itself presented with a business opportunity by our group: to design and produce a custom racing bike that is specially made for the difficult terrain and circumstances of the Tour of Oman. This project, initiated by us, dissatisfied with existing options for the demanding race circuit, provides GBI with an unparalleled opportunity to demonstrate its innovation and expertise in the cycling industry.

The Tour of Oman, which began on the beautiful coastline of Oman, has quickly become a rising star in the world of professional cycling, providing a compelling blend of technical obstacles and breath-taking natural scenery. This event, led by Tour de France director Christian Prudhomme, has quickly captivated the attention of riders and fans alike. The Tour of Oman, scheduled for February 2024, has unique problems that typical bike models such as the "TOUR" and "ORBK" are not equipped to handle.

The project's complexity stems not just from achieving the technical requirements for the Tour of Oman, but also from keeping to a strict deadline. With the order scheduled for August 2023, GBI must complete extensive factory testing by December 2023 to allow for rider field testing and final changes. The project necessitates cross-functional collaboration throughout the organisation, including design, engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and logistics divisions.

Furthermore, the deal gives GBI the option to grow its market presence beyond the original order. GBI plans to produce a new "Extreme Off-road" bike using components from its existing models, capitalising on the Tour of Oman's success.

While GBI's USA company handled the initial "inquiry to quote" procedure, all design and testing work must be completed entirely in European facilities to comply with EU technology development incentives.

Despite management's confidence in landing the contract, GBI understands the value of robust risk management and change control. These processes will keep the project on track, delivering a high-quality product on schedule and laying the groundwork for future development and profitability.
