As a manager, you will be often called upon to validate the company’s position on policies and procedures. Review each of the ten policies and offer an opinion as to whether this policy is good or needs to be changed – and why. Each question is worth 5 points. Each answer should be detailed and your reason for the answer well explained.
1. If an employee terminates, for any reason, and is re-hired for the same or different position within the company, all former seniority is lost and that employee’s Company Seniority date would be the date of his or her re-employment.
2. Employees who do not work their last scheduled work day before, or after their first scheduled work day following the holiday, will forfeit the holiday pay benefit.
3. If an employee calls in sick seven times in a one year (rolling) period, they will be terminated.
4. Women may wear earrings provided they are not larger than 1 inch in diameter. In addition, one or two earrings may be worn per ear, provided one of the earrings is a small stud. Two hoop earrings may not be worn in the same ear. Men may wear one small post in each ear. Hoop earrings or earrings of any other nature may not be worn while on the job. 5. The company will supply each employee with a uniform. In the event the employee damages or misplaces the uniform, the employee will pay all costs to replace it.
6. If an employee transfers or is promoted to a new position, they must remain in that position for a minimum of six months before they can apply for a different position.
7. If an employee calls in sick more than two days in a row, they must bring a doctor’s excuse to return to work. If they do not bring a doctor’s note, the absence will be counted as unexcused.
8. In the event of a death in their immediate family (mother, father, spouse/significant other, child), an employee may receive 5 days of company paid bereavement pay.
9. While more than one family member/relative may work for the company, no one can be in a position where one person is the supervisor for another family member/relative.
10. If two or more employees are hired on the same day, the oldest employee will have the most seniority with the youngest employee having the least seniority in the seniority roster.
