Throughout the addition of bromine to trans-cinnamic acid, the subsequent amounts were used: 10.0 mmol trans-cinnamic acid, 6.0 ml glacial acid and 10 ml 1.0 M solution of bromine in acetic acid.

Presume you only utilize half the amount of bromine solution given explain how might this affect your results?

a) Explain this will not affect the yield but the reaction will proceed at half the rate.

b) Because we are using a 100% excess of bromine in for the reaction, yield will not be
affected.

c) The yield is reduced by about half also the product will contain a combination of both unreacted trans-cinnamic acid and the dibromide.

d) Ever since this is an equilibrium reaction, yield is increased.
