Bill is the Student Government Association President at a community college who is planning the annual school barbeque. His budget is extremely limited. If he offers only pork barbeque (no beef or chicken), then he will able to have enough to serve the entire student population. Both beef and chicken barbeque cost twice as much as pork. However, 25% of the student population at his college is either Muslim or Jewish (neither of whom eats pork for religious reasons, nor are they vegetarian). Student government funds come from the student activities fees paid by all students. Use one of the theories listed above to explain and demonstrate in detail the process Bill should use to determine what he should serve. You may be creative with your answer, but the event must still be able to be called a “barbeque.” Keep in mind that If he adds beef or chicken, he will not have enough food for everyone. According to your analysis, what would be the morally correct thing for Bill to do? Why? (In other words, for whichever theory you choose, explain not only the process but the result of having used that process.) The theories you may choose from are: Utilitarianism, Natural Law Theory, Kantian Moral Theory (H and UL), Rights-Based Moral Theory, Virtue Ethics (list the virtues), Ethics of Prima Facie Duty (list the duties), and Social Contract Theory.
