Natalie Joseph is , a 20-year-old woman, books an appointment with Dr. Grey , who is a plastic surgeon. During her appointment, Joseph asks for female circumcision (type 2). The young woman explains that she was born in a country where the female circumcision is widespread, but, because she was adopted by Canadians as a baby, she never had the procedure done. She says that all her life she has felt like an outsider here in Canada, and her main reason for getting the surgery is that she wishes to reconnect with her traditional roots. She is also thinking about moving back to her home country.
