Consider a mass M is a distance L above the ground at constant temperature, TR. The mass is released, falls, and hits the ground. The kinetic energy just before it hits is converted to thermal energy due to the collision and is transferred to the ground by heat transfer. Using the Kelvin-Planck statement of the second law, demonstrate that this process is irreversible.
