Description: This semester you have experimented with different approaches to inquiry and used different sources of evidence to research basic questions pertaining to media studies. Using a self-study method, you analyzed evidence from personal experience to answer a question about the impact that medium environments and the bias of communication have on everyday life. Using a comparative analysis method, you drew examples from primary and secondary sources to answer a question about how historical sources can complement each other to enrich our understanding of media history. And using a textual analysis method, you carefully examined a media text and drew evidence from it to answer a question about how the meanings of media messages are constructed and communicated to audiences. Now, in your final project, you will combine aspects of these different approaches to inquiry and sources of evidence to learn more about the experiences, meanings and impacts of media in our world. Specifically, you will write an eight-page (minimum 2000 words) paper that incorporates material from personal experience, media texts, class readings, and outside scholarly sources to answer a specific research question that explores some dimension of the role of media in culture and society.
