The following mechanism has been proposed for the decomposition of ozone in the atmosphere.

Step 1 O3 O2 + O
Step 2 O + O3 2O2 (the reverse reaction is negligibly slow)

Use the steady state approximation, with O treated as the intermediate, to find an expression for the rate of decomposition of O3, i.e. -d(O3)/dt. (Note, do not set d(O3)/dt equal to zero). When step 2 is slow, the rate of decomposition of ozone reduces to

a. k1[O3]

b. k1k-1/ k2 [O2]

c. k1k2[O3]^2 / k-1 [O2]

d. k2[O3]

Enter the letter of the correct selection.
