340 Auto Repair has recorded over 400 vehicles that they have provided services for. Each vehicle is assigned based on their VIN number (a unique code registered from the Department of Motor Vehicles). For each vehicle, the shop collects the owner's information (recorded with a unique customer number), brand, model, year, color, mileage, and maintenance history. The owner information includes first and last name, driver license number, mailing address, phone number and email address. One owner can possess more than one vehicle. 340 Auto Repair also has an autoparts storage that contains autoparts for various models of car. They have record indicating their most frequently repaired models, hence, they will usually prepare more autoparts for those popular car brands than others.
Business Analysis:
As mentioned previously, customer data for several hundred customers are currently managed using a spreadsheet. If a customer's details change, the prior details will be overwritten. All new customers' details must be verified by his/her driver license. After verifying the customer's identity, her/his details will be entered into the spreadsheet. No customer can have repair services if they have not been entered into the spreadsheet. Once customers have decided to have their vehicles repaired or maintained in the shop, a transaction record will be produced marking with both the automobile and the owner's information and then a standard check form will be sent out to a responsible repair worker. The worker will mark problems and services they detect and perform on the form and hand it back to the front office. Based on the form, the final price will be calculated and sent to the customer.
