Question

Alexa is a 21-year-old female who returns to the office today for her annual physical exam. She states she was feeling well until yesterday when she began noticing urinary urgency, frequency, and burning on urination. She also states her urine smells "funky." Her physical exam is normal except for her urinary complaints. Clean catch urine is obtained from the patient and dipstick urine is done, showing nitrates and elevated WBCs. Dipstick is also positive for trace amounts of blood. Urine culture is performed (quantitative) and is positive for infection w/Klebsiella bacteria. Medical decision making for her UTI is low.
