Tate Tophus is a 63-year-old white male who presents to your urgent care clinic complaining of severe left foot pain. He reports pain began last night with significant swelling and new-onset redness of his left foot's metatarsophalangeal joint (MTJ). His symptoms have progressively worsened into the morning hours. Tate states he routinely sees a rheumatologist and was diagnosed with acute gouty arthritis 9 years ago. He states that he will have an acute attack approximately every 3-4 months. Tate reports he broke his ankle 6 months ago. His ankle has not completely healed, and he is having minimal pain. Hee is being treated by an outside orthopedist and is wearing a lace-up ankle brace.
