1) Unlike materials, energy into and then out of ecosystems. Energy enters the biosphere as solar energy from the sun. Energy eventually leaves the planet in the form of heat. Describe the ecological events in the path of energy through the biosphere in two scenarios. Each scenario should involve something you did today. For example: If you mowed your lawn with an electric mower, describe how the sun's energy got into your power mower, and where that energy went on its way into out space. If you played golf, how did the sun's energy come to propel that golf ball down the fairway, and where did the energy go on its way out into space.

2) Ecosystem Capital can be defined as "the goods and services we derive from natural systems" (Wright & Boorse, 2011).  Any benefits we might gain from developing an ecosystem for building projects ought to be weighed against the loss of goods and services that may result. Ecosystem capital may be easy to take for granted, because many people are unaware of where these services come from. Research an ecosystem in your area, and discuss the ecosystem services it provides. Consider what impact loss of the ecosystem would have, if any, on your life.  Consider what impact loss of the ecosystem would have, if any, in your community.
