Scenario 1

You have been hired as a junior sales trainee in the sales department of a marketing company ‘INNOWAYZ'. As a part of your training, your Sales Manager has suggested that you carry out a short research task to investigate what constitutes an effective team, and the part they play in achieving corporate objectives. You feel this is good advice and wonder how you might complete this task. You need to select a business organization to investigate the benefits of teamwork. You decide that you should examine the theory linked to teams and team working to help you make informed judgements about what a good team looks like.

Task A
You are required to research a business organization of your choice that uses team work to good effect, ( for example a sales team in a retail business, an academic team in a college etc).Your research will then be used to produce a report in two parts that provides your Sales Manager with your findings on effective teams.
Part one of the report will include an explanation, using examples, of the types, purposes, and characteristics of an effective team from the chosen business you have researched. This part of the report should also include an assessment and evaluation of the benefits this team brings to the organization. The evaluation must be supported by specific examples from your chosen business, and from teams in other business linking relevant theory and including how the team works together.

Task B
The second part of your report will focus on a discussion of the roles within an existing team and the team dynamics at play as the team works to achieve its stated objectives. Appropriate team theory will be used to provide an analysis and evaluation of the overall performances and effectiveness of the team, the individual team members, and the team leader. Remember to consider team conflict and ways that conflict is overcome as part of your evaluation. Appropriate recommendations on how the cohesiveness could be improved will be justified using team theory.

Scenario 2
Your organization holds substantial team building activities on a regular basis. Some events are Continuing Professional Development (CPD) events that have followed reorganization or major recruitment, e.g. orienteering events, treasure hunts, Krypton Factor like events, etc. At other times, teams evolve to organize annual events such as charity events for ‘Children in Need' or social events, e.g. annual summer fete. Having completed your research into what constitutes an effective team, you feel ready to put your learning into practice. You have been working as part of team in your area of the business for quite a few months. You have continued to build your product and customer service knowledge and want to demonstrate you are now ready for that next step.
Task C
You will participate in substantial team activities. Team activities can be full day events or carried out over several sessions, possibly during a period of learning this unit. You must take part in a minimum of two activities and undertake the roles of both a team leader and a team member.
You will demonstrate a professional approach throughout the unit. You will have shown self-management together with initiative and creativity in research and teamwork. An independent approach is one where you will develop your own ideas or develops ideas in distinctive ways. You will demonstrate a professional approach to teamwork, and an attention to detail and precision throughout your work.
You will assess your individual performance both as team member and as team leader. You will need to explain how conflict was managed. You will reflect on your skills, both as team members and as team leaders. You will explain how you dealt with situations that arose during the activities in which you participated.
You will need to keep a reflective logbook, supported by feedback gained during the team activities, that will record what went well, what didn't go to plan, where conflict existed and how this conflict was managed, and detail the skills you developed during this period as well as plan improvement in performance. The logbook will support a report that will reflect on the effectiveness of the team and your own performance as both team leader and team member and assesses how conflict was managed.
The logbook and report will record how you demonstrated initiative, self-management, and creativity in the professional development of team skills.

9. Visits need to be arranged and made to the organizations. For meeting the respective managers, the college will provide a reference letter for the project and the manager of the organization is welcome to contact the administration at the college
