Unit 4 Computer Systems and Software - ATHE Level 4 Diploma in Computing Scenario
You have been appointed as Operations Manager by Infinity Cars, a local car dealer which is looking to expand their business. The business currently operates from two local lock up garages and the records are kept in the manager's note book relating to stock and sales.
The manager Dave employs a part time member of staff who is studying at a local college and he has suggested that the business moves to computerised records to streamline processes and enable all staff to have access to the same records. Dave has therefore asked you to investigate this idea further. The business needs to be able to log customer details, sales, stock, appointments with customers and suppliers, car tax, service logs and maintenance records.
The computer system should be designed so that it is networkable and that it can be expanded in future to allow for additional staff and sharing of components and devices. It should also be accessed through mobile devices.
Activity 1
Using the information you have been provided with and some additional external research produce design documentation in response to the client brief identifying how the components will work together. You must ensure you relate this information to the needs of Infinity Cars. Specifically you will need to:
• describe the components of different computer systems
• analyse networking infrastructures
• assess the function of components within a chosen computer system
• evaluate peripheral devices to meet different purposes
Activity 2
The manager of Infinity Cars is interested in the work you have done so far but he wants to understand computer software. You now need to recommend computer software that will run with the recommended hardware to meet the client brief. Produce detailed notes for a meeting with Dave which:
• investigate and evaluate different operating systems and explain how these are used to manage resources.
• critically assess the software applications that will meet the client needs and recommend which of these would be most appropriate stating the reasons for your choice.
• assess different web applications and mobile applications that the client could use to enhance the user experience and judge how useful these would be for Infinity Cars.
