Assignment title - Understanding and applying principles of organisational behaviour to a variety of business situations
Aim -
The aim of this unit is to develop a student's understanding of the influence culture, politics and power have on the behaviour of others in an organisational context. Students will be in a position to apply the principles of organisational behaviour to a variety of business situations.
On successful completion of this unit students will have an understanding and awareness of key influences which affect the behaviour of individuals, teams and organisations as a whole. They will be able to use this knowledge to make an immediate and positive contribution in the workplace, whether that role is as part of a team or as a team leader. This will be achieved through a strong appreciation of working in a team, having a more profound perspective of what makes people and organisations do what they do, and how to adjust one's own behaviour to reflect the circumstances and situation.

Assignment Brief and Guidance -
Scenario - You have been appointed as Business Advisor/Consultant by an organisation of your choice. (This can be your current workplace). Your MD asks you to prepare an analytical report which can help in improving business operations and practices. You decide to prepare an analytical case study which will be helpful in establishing the influence of organisational culture and motivation on the behaviours and performances within the workplace.
Task 1 -
1.1 Provide an introduction to your selected organisation and submit a detailed case study which provides critical evaluation of your chosen organisation's culture, politics, power and its relationship on workforce performance and motivation. Support your answer with relevant examples of how these aspects of organisational practices have influenced behaviour in the workplace.
1.2 Conclude with recommendations and justifications on how your organisation could improve the performance of their staff to meet goals using the theories of culture, power, politics and motivation.
Formal report should contain the following: Cover page, Summary, Contents page, introduction, Main body of the report, Conclusion, Recommendations, References, Appedicies (where applicable), Harvard referencing, Citation. Maximum word count 2000.

Assignment Brief and Guidance -
Scenario - This part of the assignment gives you the opportunity to demonstrate your ability to work with others, based upon the understanding of group and group dynamics.
Task 2 -
You work for an event management company which organizes small tourist visits to different locations in the UK. You have been approached by a group of foreign visitors who are keen to visit a theme park. In small groups (3-4 members per group) you are required to create a plan for a Day-Out event to a nearby theme park. Your team will be required to identify various planning activities and allocate each team member's roles and responsibilities. This group/teamwork activity is to test group and teamwork theories (for example, Belbin, Tuckman, and hard and soft skills) and their effectiveness. During this process you are required to analyse various factors and skills that assist or hinder effective teamwork. You also have to consider appropriate philosophies of organizational behavior regarding on team performances in the given context.
After the in-class activity you will individually reflect on the various concepts and theories in a reflective statement of your team performance, analysing team dynamics, team members' roles and behaviour.
You should conclude with an explanation of what factors are instrumental in teams effectively achieving their objectives and identify those aspects which threaten successful achievement and cohesive group work. In your reflective report:
2.1 Assess the benefits of working in a team: identify the mix of knowledge, skills and experience necessary for a team to fulfil its functions in an organisation.
2.2 Demonstrate and discuss the benefits of working in a team as a leader and member towards specific goals, dealing with any conflict or difficult situations to develop roles during team assignments.
2.3 Review the effectiveness of teamwork in achieving the goals.
2.4 Analyse and evaluate the relevance of team development theories and philosophies that influence behaviour during the in-class team activity.
