Scenario
As a consultant working for the UNWTO, you are asked to make a presentation to an audience of destination representatives in which you will outline and discuss the historic development of travel and tourism industry and how it helped shape up the tourist experience.
Based on the analysis of the tourism experience, you are also expected to explain to the audience the factors that motivate people to travel and what destination characteristics can influence the customer decision making process
Learning Outcome 1: Discuss the development of the travel and tourism industry and explain how the different elements of the industry combine to provide a tourism experience
Produce a briefing paper to the audience in which you discuss the key historical (milestones) developments in the travel and tourism industry and how they have shaped the global travel and tourism sector. Identify and explain the different elements of the travel and tourism industry and how they interrelate each other to create the tourist experience.
Analyse the discrete role of those elements and discuss how they interact with each other to provide a tourist experience. Critically analyse the inter-relationship between the different elements of the sector and demonstrate how a weakness in one can affect the overall tourist experience.
Learning Outcome 2: Explain the factors driving tourist behaviour
Explain the tourism influencing factors between generating countries and destinations and determine those factors that affect tourism behaviour and assess the factors underpinning tourist behaviour and evaluate their impact on the decision making process.
Motivations influences consumer behaviour. Explain using models of motivation how it influences consumer decision making process and critically evaluate the link between the key drivers of tourist behaviour and the popularity of different tourism destinations and experiences
Scenario 2
You have been appointed as an assistant to the marketing manager for a popular destination who is developing a global marketing strategy. In support of this effort, you are required to write a report on the globally emerging pattern and trends in the international tourism sector and examine the factors affecting the popularity of a range of global destinations.
Learning Outcome 3: Determine current patterns and key trends in travel and tourism
Identify and discuss the recent and emerging patterns and trends in the global travel and tourism industry, and analyse and highlight their significance to the development of this industry globally.
Learning Outcome 4: Investigate the factors affecting the current levels of popularity of different global destinations
Popularity of a tourist destination depends on several factors. Examine the factors affecting the popularity of a range of global destinations. Analyse those factors for different destinations and assess their level of importance to a destination's popularity. Provide examples from a few destinations of your choice.
Critically evaluate the link between the key drivers of tourist behaviour and the popularity of different tourism destinations and experiences.
