Heating System Design Briefs and Heating Load Analysis
Learning Outcome 1: Identify pre-design information required for a non-domestic heating system.
Learning Outcome 2: Analyse heating loads for non-domestic buildings.
Assignment Brief
Your role as a trainee building services design engineer is under review. As you are heading towards the completion of your company training scheme, your manager has decided that you have gained enough experience to complete a design for a building heating system. They have also decided that your depth of knowledge and understanding can be assessed, and additional supplementary design and comfort information should also be supplied as part of the process.
You have been provided with the drawings of a building and all the other necessary information about it. You have been asked to provide information and relevant design calculations regarding a proposed non-domestic heating system which would be suitable for the building provided, including any possible sustainable options and other information that you may require. Your work should make reference to industry standard guides and legislation.
• Further to the assignment brief, explain the design process stages for your proposal of a non-domestic heating system.
• Discuss the information that should be included in a design brief for a non-domestic heating system design.
• You must produce the design data for the heating system in your proposal using a recognised method and format to include the attached drawings and data below for guidance.
• Use your knowledge on the form and fabric of the building for your proposal to demonstrate how you will perform the necessary U-value calculations.
• Use the U-values, to calculate the heat loss for the spaces in the building.
Calculate the total heating load for a given building, using the drawing layouts
