Case Study Scenario

You are the nurse taking care of Dr. Jones's patient Ms. Lisa Miller, in room 205 on Medical Surgical Unit 6300. Ms. Miller is a 52-year-old woman who underwent a laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) this morning. Ms. Miller is currently experiencing nausea and vomiting. She's vomited twice in the past hour, with each episode producing about 200 mL of clear liquid. Her vital signs are stable: BP 120/80 mmHg, HR 88 bpm, RR 16 breaths/minute, SpO2 98% on room air. Pain is controlled with morphine 5mg IV administered 2 hours ago, and her pain score is currently 3/10 on a numerical scale. Ms. Miller has a history of motion sickness and reports experiencing nausea during previous car rides. She has no allergies and is not taking any medications at home. She has a history of nausea, and vomiting started after surgery, a known risk factor for PONV (Post-operative nausea and vomiting).
