Take any company which is undergoing expansion with the use of automation or inducting modern technology. This new technology should provide greater speed, accuracy, efficiency, and double output. However, this initiative would also result in downsizing. The current strength of 235 employees, mostly in the age group of 25 - 40 years, is expected to reduce to 101 employees only.
This initiative is led by the Chief Executive Officer (CFO) of the company who is 65 years old and a very competent professional. He has an introvert, extremely organized, conscientious, trusting, helpful and caring personality. Being close to the employees, he is very concerned at the downsizing and its negative affects but has no other option given the fact that the company's growth depends on this new technology.
The firm which has a history of 23 years and is a reputed and successful industry leader, believes in high ethical operating standards. It is a well-established, dynamic, and flat organization where authority is delegated, decision making is fast and customer satisfaction is high. The organizational climate is excellent, there are good employee relations and employees work mostly in cross functional teams which are cohesive and professionally rewarding. Compensation and benefits are in the upper ten percentile of the industry and a recent survey showed that employee satisfaction is 89% which is the highest in the industry.
