We have touched on the debate about the role and possible merits of alt-labor at various points in this lesson commentary. In 2015, the New Labor Forum, a journal publication of the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies, published a piece from labor strategist Lance Compa, as well as a set of replies from other noted labor activists and educators. Compa's piece was entitled "Careful What You Wish For (Links to an external site.)," and offered his views on several theories and trends in the context of rebuilding the labor movement, among them, alt-labor. The bulk of the replies (Links to an external site.) agree with part, and disagree with part of Compa's analysis, making for a spirited and substantive debate.
