Aim:

To develop a greater understanding of the importance of research ethics and integrity, and the complex factors which may drive researchers to act in ways which breach ethical and integrity standards.

Exercise

Prior to this week's class, you should have read the paper: Heron, M. J., & Belford, P. (2014). Ethics in context: a scandal in academia. ACM SIGCAS Computers and Society, 44(2), 20-51.

Discussion of the issues described in that scenario. Consider closely the actions taken by each party within this situation? What has motivated them to act in the way that they have? Are their actions ethical? Do any of the actions described constitute research misconduct?
