Aims and Relevance
Managing creativity, innovation and change are essential to successful performance in the context of increasing demands and fierce competition faced by organisations in the twenty-first century. This unit provides an opportunity for you to explore how these processes might effectively be promoted across organisations regardless of sector and from small businesses through to large multinational corporations. The unit adopts a critical approach encouraging consideration of alternative philosophical perspectives and drawing on influential contributions and contemporary research.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this unit you should be able to:
1 Demonstrate the following knowledge and understanding
• Demonstrate a systematic understanding and critical appreciation of theories and models of creativity, innovation and change management in the context of contemporary organisations.
2 Demonstrate the following skills and abilities
• Synthesise individual and organisational theoretical perspectives to systematically promote the potential for creativity, innovation and change in practice.
Assessment details
Aims and learning outcomes determine the need to develop a critical understanding of how creativity and innovation might be promoted and sustained, including the effective management of change. You will produce two assignments that demonstrate all learning outcomes.
Assignment 1
You will develop a plan to promote creative thinking in your work organisation with a view to enhancing innovation. You will need to include an in-depth literature review critically evaluating alternative contemporary perspectives in order to draw meaningful conclusions and develop feasible recommendations to the organisation. You will present your analysis and plan in a 1500-word report fully supported by quality academic sources
Assignment 2
An in-depth evaluation of a systematic approach to the promotion of creativity and innovation in your work organisation, including a consideration of effective change management. You are required to use influential contemporary theories to analyse in-depth and synthesise organisational systems leading to clear conclusions and feasible recommendations. You will write a report of 1500 words fully supported by quality academic sources.
In order to pass Assessment 1 you will need to:
• Demonstrate an adequatecritical knowledge and understanding of challenges and opportunities in promoting organisational creativity and innovation.
• Synthesise adequatealternative perspectives of influential contemporary theorists, contributors and models.
In order to pass Assessment 2 you will need to:
• Demonstrate adequate knowledge, skills, abilities and approaches necessary to effectively orchestrate organisational systems to promote and sustain creativity, innovation and manage change.
• Synthesise adequate capability across multiple levels to add value and optimise creativity, innovation and organisational performance.
