Your instructor has a sad, disturbing fascination with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT). The TMNT were supposed to be young turtles that were mutated by radioactive ooze to have a body plan very similar to a human in external appearance and function. This means that the TMNT are able to speak, stand upright, and function in all ways like a human being while retaining their shells and other turtle-y traits. Based on your understanding of the structure of a turtle's skeletal, muscular and circulatory systems, describe the changes that would be required to produce a TMNT from a regular turtle (you should be sure to explain why each change would be necessary). What things about each of those systems would NOT have to change and why? Using your understanding of the developmental process in vertebrates, what do you think the likelihood is of ever seeing an actual TMNT? What leads you to this conclusion (you need to be SPECIFIC and THOROUGH here)?
