Question: BELIEF in the real existence (of anything) is NOT the same as that "thing" REALLY EXISTING. IF there is "sufficient evidence" or "certain proof" that some "thing" REALLY exists, THEN, the BELIEF in its real existence is responsible.
W.K. Clifford was a skeptic, who concluded that the BELIEF in God is not a responsible belief. After investigating the REAL existence of God, by applying his "ways" of gathering evidence and information to support God's real existence (*personal investigation, *trusting an authority and *use of inference) he discovers that ALL of them FAIL (in some way) to result in CERTAIN proof that God really exists. Without sufficient evidence that God is REAL, the BELIEF in God's existence is irresponsible, according to him.
ASSIGNMENT:
To demonstrate your understanding of Clifford's investigation process (and conclusion): Apply EACH of Clifford's 3 ways of gathering evidence one at a time to: GOD's REAL EXISTENCE.
THINK carefully, and EXPLAIN in detail one by one, HOW you are working through each "way" (How you're doing it, what sources are you referring to, who or what are you consulting, etc...) THEN, EXPLAIN HOW or WHY each "way" will FAIL to result in certain or sufficient proof that God really exists.
