TASK 1
Plan and implement 2 separate activities to demonstrate your understanding of assisting children with cultural competence. Your activities will need to include:
1. 1 activity based on cultures accessed by the service
2. 1 activity based on local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people

Plan will need to include
1. List of National Quality Standards and link to policies and procedures of the service
2. List of relevant learning framework (School aged care - My time, our place or early childhood - Belonging, Being and Becoming)
3. Reasons for selecting each activity (must demonstrate research into relevant activity for the service)
4. Links to policies and procedures of the service

Evaluate activities under the following headings:
1. Relationship between curriculum and activity
2. National Quality Standard (list standard and write evaluation against this standard)
3. Early Years Learning Framework (discuss against Outcomes)
4. Consultation - evidence of consulting local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people and local cultural group (please see trainer if you have difficulty with this as in some cases there may be links that we can assist with).
5. Environment - physical, interactions between children and activity, conversations during activity that demonstrate cultural competency
6. Overview of activities against organisational standards, policies and procedures, community and family engagement
7. Discussion - importance of implementing and imbedding culturally diverse activities into daily practice

ASSESSMENTS

Assessment 1
Write 200 words reflection on your cultural identity and biases. Remember, all people have their own cultural identity and it is important to acknowledge any bias that you may have. Your assessment will not be judged on biases but is about an honest reflection of your own identity and biases.

Assessment 2
In your plan, you have had to read and review National Quality Framework, National Quality Standards and learning framework (e.g. EYLF). Discuss the following:
1. How did you review these documents? Please show examples
2. How did you decide on the relevant areas of each of the above?
3. Where did you locate these documents?

Assessment 3
Write 400 words on the impact of colonisation, historical events and issues on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. (Please speak to your Assessor if you need assistance in regard to the length of the assessment. Assessor is looking for about a paragraph on each topic area)

Assessment 4
You will need to access the service's policies and procedures related to working with indigenous groups to undertake this assessment. List organisational policies and procedures linked to support participation.
