Question

Understanding healthcare roles is critical for team functioning and according to our text should be patient-centered. A clear establishment of leaders with division of labor towards common goals is important for teams to work efficiently and effectively. Being an administrative subject matter expert would mean understanding important details of the topics of the goal of the team work. In this position, I would have to be able to communicate my knowledge of the content on an interprofessional team. I currently occupy this role being an urgent care PA. If I evaluated a patient and refer out to the ER for further evaluation, I need to communicate all subject matter such as patient disposition and reason for referral to numerous individuals to ensure the patient's case is properly received. I believe this is a role many leaders take in the healthcare field as leaders should be as knowledgable as possible in the content in order to guide and lead. For future, positions, I envision this role as attending to a team of healthcare providers and ensuring multidisciplinary communication in an attempt to deliver care most appropriately.
