Vegetation covers the earth. Richly fertilized plains and river valleys are places where plants grow most richly, but also at the edge of perpetual snow in high mountains. The ocean and its edges as well as in and around lakes and swamps are densely vegetated. The cracks of busy sidewalks have plants in them as well as in seemingly barren cliffs.

Question 2: Re-write in order to get rid of all the nominalizations. Feel free to create a new subject,

A solution to the UFO problem is impossible without a better understanding about the possibility of extraterrestrial life.

Question 3: Rewrite the following sentence by removing the passive voice in all cases.  You may need to invent characters.  Do not change any active voices.  Do not try to change it in any other way. 

The creation of a database is being considered, but no estimate has been made in regard to its potential usefulness because the scientist has been busy.
