As an upcoming provider, it is imperative to make sure the patients being seen understand what I am saying to them and understand the education that correlates with their presented issue. Establishing a good rapport with my patients allows them and myself to feel more comfortable discussing matters regarding health that need to be addressed. By having a trusting relationship with my patients, they can feel more comfortable discussing issues that may be uncomfortable or misunderstood and are more likely to ask questions. To build a good rapport, one of the main factors would be to understand the patient's culture, religion, gender, beliefs, views, etc. Asking each patient about their culture, racial, gender, and ethnic context will help us start out on good terms. It is always essential to ask the patient how they feel about their health issues and how they would prefer to proceed with treatment options that best fit their lifestyle. By doing so, this can ensure a better relationship with each patient along with a more successful treatment plan knowing that it is a plan the patient has chosen for themselves (Buttaro et al., 2021, p. 28). To better create a patient-centered environment, Picker's right principles.
