Assessment description
This assessment will help to understand the basic structure of research in the business context. It is a skill that learners can apply in practice to translate a business problem into a pract1cal research study by identifying cause- and-effect relationships.

1. In your first tutorial (Week 2), your tutor will assign you to Major research project groups. If you wish to complete the Major research task individually, please let your tutor know then.

2. As a group decide on a business-related topic. Your tutor will guide you on this in tutorial 1 in Week 2.

3. Download Research matrix template to and complete steps 4 to 7 to fill out the template.

4. Using the assigned business related topic designated to your group:
A. Industry
Identify one industry that consists of a number of similar competing companies (i.e. Mobile phone industry)
B. Company
Idenñfy one profit or non-profit company within that industry (i.e. Apple or Samsung). If the company offers many products, pick only one product (i-phone or Samsung mobile phone).
C. Business reseamh problem Identify one business research problem which currently exists in that industry or company. Note that the:
• Problem must be related to
service management, or tourism.

5. Here is an example:
• Chosen business related topic: Vehicles
• Industry: The electric vehicle segment within the Car industry (Other options may look like a family car or business car segment)
• Company: Tesla
• Business reseamh problem example: How to market electric vehicles to potential consumers by highlighting sustainability and fuel reduction features.

6. Use one journal article to identify a theory related to your chosen problem. State the theory details in one sentence.

7. Based on that journal article, select one dependent variable (solution) and 2-3 independent variables (reasons).

8. After submitting your research matrix, you will combine and compare all of your future group members' proposed theories from Points 5 to 6 to select one single theory for your Major Project.
