Question

Home health agencies are often under-considered components of healthcare, yet they require a similar need for accreditation. A home health agency can be best understood as an organization that is engaged "in providing skilled nursing services and other therapeutic services" (U.S., n.d.a). At least one physician and registered nurse coordinate patient care while maintaining clinical records, safety, and quality of care (U.S., n.d.a). Services can include intermittent skilled medical care, physical therapy, social services, and home health aide care in almost any rural and urban setting (U.S., n.d.b). The population that home health agencies serve is primarily Medicare recipients, those over 65 (Rosati, 2015). Additionally, this population is defined as having three or more chronic morbidities, two or more barriers to activities of daily living, and half living below the poverty line (Rosati, 2015). Since home health agencies manage and treat such a complex population, being recognized for and providing quality care is necessary; accreditation will reflect this goal.
