Sally just got assigned to a pediatric client Tommy and his family. Tommy is 10 years old with uncontrolled asthma. During the first meeting, Sally noticed that Tommy's father vaped regularly in the home. Sally also noticed that Tommy had a pet dog Rover whom he adored. While assessing the conditions in the home, Sally noted that there was wall to wall carpet in the home, windows through the entire house were regularly left opened, Tommy had a large collection of stuffed animals in his room and there was a large amount of dust on the end tables and entertainment center. Sally also asked if Tommy used his inhaler and was informed that the medication was too expensive so he does not get it on a regular basis. Create a plan on how you the CHW would help Tommy and his family manage his disease. How would you empower Tommy to self manage his asthma? Do you think that you would have any barriers to helping this family and how would you overcome them if possible?
