Question

You are taking care of a patient who has strict NPO orders due to a stroke that left him unable to swallow safely. You overhear the daughter of the patient ask if he wanted more apple juice. You witness the daughter place an apple juice-soaked mouth swab in the patient mouth for him to suck on. You then ask the daughter to refrain from doing that as the patient is not cleared to swallow. Attempting to explain to daughter the safety concern, she becomes agitated, starts yelling and is belligerent. After attempting to verbally de-escalate the situation with the daughter, she is still unwilling to accept her father cannot have anything by mouth. What do you do?
