Testing for functional dyspepsia include blood work, upper endoscopy, or breath tests. A second possible diagnosis could be peptic ulcer disease. Peptic ulcer disease is when open sores develop on the inner lining of stomach and portion of the small intestine. The most common symptom of peptic ulcers is stomach pain. The most common cause of these ulcers is an infection from Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).
