Evaluate three different types of web health information sites.

Include the following aspects in the discussion:

• Choose at least one .edu or .gov site, one with a search that includes the term "conspiracy," and one with a search that begins with "the real truth about."
• Make a simple chart that includes the 8 Principles from the model on the Health on the Net website, along the top and the three sites along the left-hand column, evaluate all three sites with a check mark if the principle is met.

The HONcode is a voluntary accreditation program available in 34 languages setting out eight criteria that can easily be followed by any well-intentioned web site operator. Each application is checked by a review committee including medicals professionals for compliance with all eight principles:

1. Authoritative

2. Complementarity

3. Privacy

4. Attribution

5. Justifiability

6. Transparency

7. Financial disclosure

8. Advertising policy

• Make a chart and discuss findings.
• Discuss the impact the internet has, or will have, for valid, current, reliable, evidence-based health information.
• Share if you feel the public adequately vets their health information sites.
