As counselors or school counselors in training, it is important to understand how to create and implement a safety plan. This assignment will provide you the opportunity to access a safety plan and complete the assessment based on a scenario.

Read the following scenario:

An 11-year-old boy in the fifth grade has been physically and mentally bullied at his school by another male who is 2 years older than he is.

Following the guidelines on page 37 of The Crisis Counseling and Traumatic Events Treatment Planner (available at the GCU library as an ebook with unlimited user access), need a safety plan for the 11-year-old as well as an intervention for the perpetrator. School counselors and clinical mental health counselors in training will need to choose the appropriate section.

School Counselors in Training:

• Describe the previous interventions that should have occurred both in the counseling department and administration via discipline.
• Discuss the strategies you would employ to encourage communication between teachers, counselors, administration, and parents/guardians.
• Describe how you would help the victim do a safety plan. Focus on transportation on/off campus, schedules, locker location, and hard to supervise areas such as locker rooms, bathrooms, and safe grownups.
• Explain the approach(es) you would take to convince the perpetrator to engage in healthier behaviors. Explain how this intervention would be separate from any specific disciplinary action.

From your experience in the classroom, describe and analyze what you see as the differences between rude, mean, and bullying behavior.

Clinical Mental Health Counselors in Training:

1. Identify and explain the types of therapeutic interventions you should engage in to help build resiliency with your client.
2. List the stakeholders from whom you should secure a release of information regarding your client. Describe how you could support the school's safety plan and how the school could support your safety plan.
3. Describe effective type(s) of parental engagement strategies.
4. Discuss ways that you can support the school's intervention protocol.
5. List and describe the types of "bullying education" you can provide to the parents and the school.
