- Positive reinforcement is one of the most popular methods used to motivate employees at the workplace. It normally involves the use of incentives that are beneficial to the employee. There can be bonuses and commissions based on the performance of employees, increase in wages or salary, or even job promotions. Such a reward system motivates the employees to work better and better each day for they know their good work will eventually be rewarded.
- Employee input is another way to motivate employees. This involves open communication between superiors and subordinates on work- related matters. They are also involved in work scheduling arrangements to ensure one works without any hindrances. Employees are even involved in developing plans for the future of the company. This is an important motivational tool since employees feel part of the company and therefore work for the benefit of all parties including themselves. This will obviously have a positive effect on the performance of the employees.
- Goal setting might seem obvious but it ultimately has an effect on the motivation of employees. The employee setting goals that are clear and attainable and clearly communicating them to employees will have a positive effect on their morale. It will definitely make them regain their focus and adopt teamwork as they work towards set goals. As such they will be more motivated and will work towards the set goals.
- Caring for the welfare of employees is another sure way to boost their morale. This can be through welfare policies, medical insurance, and even vacations for the working staff. With their personal needs catered for, employees are definitely bound to be motivated to work harder and better.
- Growth is also another form of employee motivation. Everyone desires change in life. An employee will feel motivated if they feel personal growth resulting from their association with others at work and improved knowledge gained from work experience.
