Math and Verbal SAT scores were examined for students in three types of introductory statistics course: one for social science majors, one for natural science majors, and one for business majors.

a. Mean Math SAT scores for the three groups were 589, 626, and 650; mean Verbal scores were 585, 601, and 574. If standard deviations and sample sizes were comparable, which F statistic should be larger: the one used to test for a difference in population mean Math scores or Verbal scores?

b. Standard deviations for the Math scores were 68, 69, and 69; for the Verbal scores they were 73, 73, and 70. If differences among means for the three groups' math scores had been comparable to the differences among means for the three groups' verbal scores, which F statistic would be larger: the one used to test for a difference in population mean Math scores or Verbal scores?
