Rick has developed type 2 diabetes. His physician referred him to a registered dietitian (RD) for nutrition therapy. He expected her to give him a preprinted diet plan and tell him what to eat and what not to eat. He was surprised that she started out by asking him about his goals (what he hopes to achieve through nutrition therapy) and his concerns related to his diet. He told her he wants to control his diabetes because he is worried about how it will affect his health.
