Assignment:

Probation and parole conditions are modified under many different circumstances in the probation/parole system. Probation officers uses assessments test such as Post-Conviction Risk Assessment (PCRA), The level of Service Inventory-Revised (LSI-R), and the Ohio Risk Assessment System (ORAS) to help identify the static and dynamic factors in offenders that will lead to recidivism. The assessments are also done to identify the criminogenic needs that an individual might have and to help distinguish between low, moderate, high-risks, and specialized offenders. Then a treatment plan is implemented by the probation officer to set individual goals for each offender to work towards and to assists them with positive behavior changes. The treatment plan can be modified based on the offenders psychological needs, an officer can referred them to behavioral programs such Thinking for a Change , Strategies for Self-Improvement, and Relapse Prevention Therapy. Officers also works closely with other government agencies to help offenders with housing and employment assistance to prevent recidivism.

However, it is difficult for offenders to find and keep a job because of their criminal background, the lack of job skills, and bad work habits. Often times offenders are the last ones to get hired and the first one to be terminated which can cause them to lose hope in everything they was working towards. The treatment plan can also be modified based on gender roles. Females offenders tend to have shorter sentences and the judge is more lenient towards females than male offenders because females commit fewer crimes, they are majority the caretakers of a dependent child, and many female offenders are the head of the household.

In my opinion, the conditions I feel are most important to ensure safety to the community is the different types of behavioral programs an offender can attend and the use of GIS mapping to keep track of their location.
