Question

A group of NPs at a clinic want to determine which of two medications produces better outcomes for patients. Obviously type of medication is measured at the nominal level (e.g. Med-A and Med-B). But their outcome variable is years of survival after the medication is started. They could measure the years directly, or categorize them as follows: 1 to 5 years, 6 to 10 years, 11 to 15 years, 16 years or more. Why is it likely to be better to use the actual years of survival rather than the categorized years?
