This is a statistics class for biology major.

Question: A manufacturer of protective gloves claims that in lab tests, 96% of the specimens of its new glove material had breakthrough times exceeding sixty minutes when challenged with formaldehyde. An environmental health student wishes to verify this claim as part of her thesis. She obtains 20 specimens of the new glove material and, in testing, finds that only 17 of them (85% of the sample) had formaldehyde breakthrough times exceeding sixty minutes.

  1. Is there evidence that the true percentage of specimens of the new glove material that would have formaldehyde breakthrough times exceeding sixty minutes is lower than 96%?
  2. Calculate the p-value necessary to answer this question. Use the following binomial table (Attached as a picture)
  3. Based on your calculations in part (a), answer the question. Explain your reasoning.
