The trial wave equation for the variational energy solution to the harmonic oscillator are the following.

ψ= [15/(16A5)(A2-X2) for -A ≤ X ≤ A

and

ψ=0 for X>A or X<-A

Here A can be considered as a variational parameter and the first term is the normalization constant.

How does the variational energy, Etrial calculated here compare to the exact solution energy for the harmonic oscillator?
