Question: As police chief, how would you handle these three behaviors. You have been informed by one of your shift sergeants that the officer is consistently late for his shift. The sergeant has issued him multiple reprimands but his behavior has not changed. You were advised in writing by your patrol division lieutenant that one of your patrol cruisers was damaged. It appeared that someone struck something and caused damage to the front fender and bumper of the car. The officer who was assigned the cruiser that day denied striking anything to the lieutenant. You were advised in writing by the lieutenant of the detective division that a member of the narcotics unit recently lost a case due to the lack of evidence against the subject arrested. It was learned through a completed internal affairs investigation, that the detective had fabricated several points listed on the arrest affidavit of probable cause. These issues came out in testimony during the trial and the detective lied to cover up the errors. When questioned by internal affairs, the detective admitted to lying on the affidavit and in his testimony.
