A 65 year old male who was prescribed cefuroxime for the treatment of a sinus infection develops a watery, profuse, foul-smelling diarrhea. Stool culture confirms the presence of C. diff toxin. What is the best course of action for this patient?

1. Continue with cefuroxime and give the patient an anti-diarrheal agent.

2. Discontinue the cefuroxime and give metronidazole.

3. Discontinue the cefuroxime and give amoxicillin and clauvalonic acid (Augmentin)

4. Continue the cefuroxime and treat with benadryl for hypersensitivity.
