Your patient has recently been prescribed propranolol (Inderal) for the treatment of hypertension. He is diabetic and currently uses insulin. What recommendation will you give to the patient regarding the use of propranolol? Propranolol decreases the effectiveness of insulin, so your dose of insulin may need to be increased. Propranolol increases the effectiveness of insulin,so your dose of insulin may need to be decreased. Propranolol makes it more difficult to recover from hypoglycemia,so you need to learn different ways to recognize hypoglycemia. Propranolol cannot be used in combination with insulin, so your physician will likely change your diabetes medication to an oral preparation.
